In redeveloping the the trident symbol to use elements of perpetua I tried to create a logo which had a bit more flow. There is less of a STOP AND LOOK moment at the trident E and more, yes, it seems to be part of the type. The only difference would be that it is a odd looking E

Creating a new trident, I wanted to take elements from Perpetua Bold italic especially looking at the D to recreate the E. The top image was a mix of three D's I used to create a new shape which faced the other way and carried the angle and sweeping motion of the italic letters. Flipping the D's around and upside down I tried to create a shape which followed the curvature of Perpetua. Why did I choose perpetua? Because Eric Gill was a sculptor who used to create type. His original type faces were very much inspired by the chiselled letter forms he created. This reminded me of the Ancient Roman Type, which I could link back to the Roman God Neptune, who carried a trident. The Italic nature was used to create movement which I would bring into the animation.
The E in the middle image was accompanied with the N, but I chopped them up and used the E for size reference. The Serif parts of the front would be used to create the middle of the trident. The aim was to create a trident head which was made completely of parts from the original typeface.
Learning Aftereffects
I like to watch Tutorials on how to do shit...sometimes. As much as I love the program and want to test what I can do, I am annoyed that I don't put enough time into it
ideas
You know what, I don't think I will do poseidon as a horse raping sisters. Thats kind of weird, but what I do plan to do is slow motion then building speed of him thrusting his trident into the word trident.

Snail's pace
Since I have started using after effects....my damn computer just gets slower and slower...like its so bloody annoying. Bah. Close enough programs and it will get better
A work in progress
Something I was working on for trident. Of course the bloody rabbit won't be there, jeez. Can't be too safe nowadays. Better than putting a condom over the logo. The idea came from a mixture of 300 and the statue of Neptune. The animation would be somewhat like the 300 comics.

How to create a logo?
I dont' know why but I am having a bit of trouble coming up with the logo for my production company. After Jodie's class and her saying that it would be great to incorporate our genre into the logo I wanted to try and put in the Roman god Neptune. This could be my way of combining the italian neorealism with my design and make it suitable for the genre.
These were being used for a bit of inspiration
Looking at Production Companies
So this week we looked into logos and symbols and how we can best animate them. Mine is called Trident. After what Jodie said about trying to bring your genre into the logo, I think I will try and design a logo which looks like an ancient roman statue or something. Otherwise I could always go to my typographic logos. What a struggle

Its going to be a rush tomorrow morning, fuck 8:30 starts
I can see myself doing this in the morning, going to be such a bloody rush. I should go to bed, what the fuck am I doing?
this could be fun but i don't think i'm quite there yet
I did not realise aftereffects could do the 3D effects, but I don't know why I am surprised by this, its pretty cool. Maybe at the end of this I will give it a go to create something like this video below. I love a challenge and always tell myself "go big or go home"
Drive | Opening Credits, looking at how to fit type in a context
If you watch closely, the typography sits in line with the context (most of the time for a split second). It would have been all planned out to sit neatly within the space. The italic, script for Drive is nestled parallel with the frame of the car.

This is dark and gloomy
I continue this collection of opening credits to help build a book of inspiration, here's a look at something dark, the strong red against the dark backgrounds really paints the picture for the rest of the film
A touch of Saul Bass
in class we were shown the James Bond Saul Bass opening credits, well here's the Ocean's 11 sequence.
or how about Anatomy of a murder?
I don't think I could create this stuff

Starting Frames
Creating a story board. I'm not usually the type who does comic drawings, but for this task I felt it was appropriate. Above is the first image I drew for my 9 frames. Get up & Go would start in the bed...dead
Run Lola Run
Run Lola Run, a movie which I watched back at school when I was probably in year 10 or younger. Being a german film I found it very difficult to get into, very difficult to understand, very difficult to pay attention to. Especially when the movie replays over and over, its well worth watching at least once, you'll see the same event many times.
Had to do it...another Monty Python Opening
I mean, if I include the holy grail opening I definitely have to put this one up for Life of Brian. It is truly an amazing piece of art which you will rarely see in other films

screw it, lets look at closing credits
how do you make a comic come to life?
Holy Grail
the strength of music, touch of humour mixed with boring. I think this can show the importance of music
Going to geek out on us?
Coming into semester 4, actually, coming into Billy Blue, if you want to go well, if you want to make that $60 000 HECS debt worth it, you're just going to have to geek out. Geek out in design, make design your life and just embrace it. I used to play rugby all the time and put that first, even my playstation took priority over study, now, you just don't stop thinking about design.
Last night I was at my friend's birthday dinner where I couldn't stop thinking about type, and how to make a logo work with an established secondary language. Fucking ruined the night

Shaun Of The Dead intro
now I know you won't be able to watch this here, but damn this opening sequence is awesome
Cool Movie Openings
This would have to be the best part of Wolverine: Origins I reckon, and I still love it
I just love the emotions of this sequence
The playfulness of this sequence
my most favourite of all
DON'T PANIC
As I sit here on my bed and think back on my day with Advanced Media Integration, I think to myself...damn, if I didn't have Jodie back in first year I reckon I would be shitting myself as she swore, danced and carried on out front like only jodie can. Gotta love her. One of the more animated teachers you will ever get at Billy Blue.
I sit and watch others stress. They panic about not being able to find a button, panic about how many assessments we have, panic about not knowing where the fucking toilet is. Its fucked. Its 4th semester, you think by now people will have learnt that maybe...just maybe you can make it through this...maybe you have been through this before? Maybe you have been through the system and know that you will get shit loads of work. The best thing you should do is take a deep breath, relax, and read the brief. At this point I can't stop thinking of the hitch hiker's guide hence I put it down below.
Sure that chart made things look shit scary with heaps to do, but seriously, if it was too much for us to handle they would have changed it by now and not set it. From all my friends in higher years, I have heard that this semester is great fun. Yes it is long and hard, and time consuming but damn if I can make an awesome movie with the best opening credits that I could ever create, well I can only say I will be happy. I am a communication designer (supposedly) but damn I am looking forward to doing some animations.
...maybe I should of listened to Rasmus and change to digital media.
